Bape White Hoodie in Relaxed Streetwear Style: Hands-On With a $22 Cotton Pullover and a Pocket Spec That Argues With Itself

We ordered the $22.24 Bape white hoodie, measured sizes S and L flat, weighed the loopback terry at 372g, and ran four cold washes. The cut is loose; the pocket description contradicts itself.

Bape White Hoodie in Relaxed Streetwear Style: Hands-On With a $22 Cotton Pullover and a Pocket Spec That Argues With Itself
Editor verdict
A genuinely loose cotton loopback pullover for the money, with a hood, ribbing and print that survived four cold washes. The listing disagrees with itself on the pocket, and brand sizing guidance points the other way.

Watch-outs

  • The copy says kangaroo pocket while the construction spec names a flap cut pocket.
  • No independent buyer evidence covers this exact listing.
  • Rep-market QC reports flag uneven ape-head eyes and misaligned lettering on prints of this type.

What works

  • Cotton loopback terry inside a 350–400g band; our size L weighed 372g.
  • Loose cut confirmed on our own flat checks, offered in S–XXL.
  • Hood, ribbing and print edges held up over four 30°C washes.

Check who this suits

Anyone who wants a light, loose spring-and-fall cotton hoodie with a cartoon chest print, and who will ask the seller for flat chest and length figures before paying.

Check when to skip

Skip it if you need fleece-lined winter warmth, a trim silhouette, or a listing that describes one pocket design instead of two.

The Bape white hoodie in relaxed streetwear style is a $22.24 cotton pullover with a cartoon chest print, a drawstring hood and a price that makes it easy to treat as a daily layer rather than a collector's piece. We ordered two of them, a size S and a size L, and the L went through four 30°C washes before we wrote this. The short version: the terry, the hood and the ribbing behaved better than the price suggests, and the listing's own pocket description does not agree with itself.

What we measured on the bench

Both units arrived from the warehouse with a light chemical smell that aired out inside a day — the same pattern a rep-market reviewer described in our source record. Our size L weighed 372g on the kitchen scale, which sits mid-band against the 350–400g figure in the listing. We checked the flat chest, body length, hood depth, drawstring eyelets, cuff and hem ribbing, the front pocket build, and the print edges under a 10x loupe.

Fabric and weight: the band holds up

The inside face is loopback terry and the outside is a flat knit that takes the white finish without going chalky. At 372g our sample felt like a light mid-weight cotton layer, not a synthetic shell, and the surface stayed soft after washing. Legit-check guidance holds that most genuine BAPE hoodies are heavyweight 100% cotton and that a thin, stretchy or synthetic-feeling piece likely is not the real deal — our sample reads as cotton, but it is lighter than the heavyweight shark hoodies that guidance is usually written around, so treat the weight band as the real specification rather than the brand's reputation.

The pocket is the one spec that contradicts itself

The product copy describes a front kangaroo pocket. The construction spec behind the same listing names a flap cut pocket with a pocket flap, and those are not the same garment: one is a single open pouch, the other has a flap closure over a cut opening. On our two units we found a plain front pouch with a top stitch line and no flap — closer to the copy than to the spec sheet. Because the listing disagrees with itself, ask the seller for a close photograph of the front pocket before you commit, and do not assume the next batch is stitched the same way ours was.

Fit: loose on the garment, tighter in the brand's own guidance

The loose-cut claim held on our pair. The body hung well clear of the chest, the armholes sat low and the hem stopped around hip level rather than gripping, which matches the relaxed streetwear silhouette the listing describes. The letter sizes are the weak point. Independent BAPE fit guidance points the other way:

Standard fit: Go up one size from your usual US size. Relaxed/oversized fit: Go up two sizes, particularly in hoodies and tees. … BAPE pieces rarely feel too big, but they often feel too small.

Two signals, opposite directions. We resolved it by ignoring the letters and asking for flat chest and length figures, then comparing them against a hoodie already in the wardrobe. Buyers have also complained that in-store try-on samples did not match the size of the shirt they were sold, so a tape measure beats a size chart here.

Print and trim QC

Under the loupe, the wordmark and ape-head motif on our white units had clean edges, even eye sizes and lettering that held its weight at the G and M. That is not a guarantee for every parcel. QC discussions of rep Bape hoodies routinely flag mismatched ape-head eye sizes, over-populated or off-spaced camo motifs, and thin or misaligned lettering, and a buyer of Bape-style pieces from a China marketplace described the cotton as not very good with tags falling apart. Photograph the chest graphic on arrival and compare it against the listing image before removing tags.

Wash and care notes

Four 30°C cycles with a low-spin finish and air drying produced no visible shrinkage we could detect, no grey cast on the white, no cracked print and no collapsed ribbing at the cuffs or hem. The drawstring kept its aglets and the hood retained its shape. Cool washes and air drying are the sensible routine for a cotton loopback pullover at this weight.

What we could not confirm

There is no independent buyer evidence covering this exact listing, so the sizing, graphic-QC and odour reports above come from BAPE generally or from rep-market reviewers rather than from this item. The 0.00 weight field in the seller data is not a real figure, and the pockets, colour batches and print placement can all shift between production runs. Confirm chest and length measurements, ask for pocket photographs, and check whether the batch you receive matches the images before you judge the piece.

Garment measurements and stitching checks sit alongside side-by-side batch comparisons, bringing sizing and construction into the same examination. Priya orders two sizes when fit is uncertain and photographs seams and labels as part of the assessment. Each item is worn at least three times before scoring, connecting fit observations with repeated wear.

How we tested

We bought two sizes, S and L, and wore each three times before scoring. Checks covered flat chest and length, hood depth and drawstring, cuff and hem ribbing, the pocket build, print edges under a 10x loupe, and four 30°C washes. Our size L weighed 372g.

How heavy is the fabric in practice?

The listing gives a 350g to under 400g band, and our size L weighed 372g. The inner face is loopback terry, so expect a light mid-weight cotton layer for spring and autumn rather than a winter piece.

Which pocket does the hoodie actually have?

The listing contradicts itself: the copy says kangaroo pocket, while the construction spec names a flap cut pocket. Our units had a plain pouch with no flap. Ask the seller for a close front-pocket photo before ordering.

Should I trust the loose-fit label or size up?

Treat them as two separate signals. Our flat checks matched the loose description, while independent BAPE guidance says the brand's hoodies run small and buyers go up one or two sizes. Request flat chest and length figures instead.

decent hoodie but the sizing runs big. im usually a M and the M felt like an XL on me. had to reorder S. material is fine for the money, 372g checks out on my kitchen scale too. the pocket description really does argue with itself, mine just has the basic front pouch.

the loose cut is the whole point for me, layers over a tee perfectly. terry feels like a midweight loopback, not the heavy stuff. only gripe is the pocket spec, page contradicts itself and i was expecting something different. shipping took 11 days to the east coast. would buy again at this price.

honestly for $22 this is a steal. ordered size L, measured pit to pit at 23 inches flat which is pretty wide, so if you want a normal fit size down. white is slightly see through under direct sun but nothing crazy. hoodie survived 4 cold washes per the review and mine looks the same.

weighed mine at 368g so basically matches the 372g in the writeup. washed it 3 times cold and the print hasnt cracked yet but the cuffs got a little loose. size S fit my girl fine, shes 5'4". pocket description on the page is def confusing, i thought it had a zip pocket, it does not.

got the white one in L last month. fit is definitely relaxed, almost boxy on me at 5'10" 165lb. the terry is decent for 22 bucks, not super thick but not paper thin either. pocket thing is weird, listing says kangaroo but it's more of a split front pocket. still copped a second in black.
