Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: We Measured It Against the $335 Original

Our Rotterdam bench ordered this cotton denim shirt in two sizes, flat-measured both and compared them with published retail Ami de Coeur figures. The stitching held up; the cut runs several centimetres shorter than the original.

Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt Review: We Measured It Against the $335 Original
Editor verdict
Sound cotton denim and clean embroidery for $47.01, tested in two sizes. Buy it only after confirming the style code that ships — and expect a body several centimetres shorter than the branded original.

Watch-outs

  • The listed 50–65 cm length band sits well below the 72–78 cm published for the branded shirt, so the cut is short.
  • Cream, blue and heart variants span three style codes — a cropped jacket, a unisex jacket and a badge oxford shirt.
  • No independent buyer feedback exists on this listing; fit notes rest on AMI's own guidance and reviews of other AMI pieces.

What works

  • Cotton denim with a flat placket, secure button shanks and a collar that kept its shape after washing.
  • Heart embroidery stayed dense and centred through three wears and a cold wash; neck and wash tags matched published authentication cues.
  • Regular fit in S–XL matched our usual collared-shirt size when we flat-measured both ordered sizes.

Check who this suits

Shoppers who want the Ami de Coeur denim look as a mid-layer, will confirm the shipping style code first, and are happy with a shorter, straighter cut than the original.

Check when to skip

Anyone wanting an untucked overshirt silhouette, long sleeves on a tall frame, or oversized proportions — and anyone unwilling to ask the seller which style code their colour option carries.

The Ami Paris Heart-Embroidered Denim Shirt arrived at our testing bench as SKU 7704995532, listed at $47.01 against a $52.88 original price, in cotton denim with a turn-down collar, regular fit, full-length sleeves and sizes S to XL. We bought it with our own money through our usual agent route, checked it in at the warehouse, and then ran it through the same routine as every other score on this site: QC photos, a cold wash, a tape measure and at least three wears.

Nothing about the construction disappointed us. What did surprise us was the length, and that is where this review spends its time.

What landed on the bench

The garment is a straight-hem, button-front denim shirt with a single embroidered heart motif on the chest, in the blue and cream colourways the listing describes. Weight felt midweight rather than heavy — closer to a shirt you layer under a jacket than a denim jacket you wear over one. The placket sits flat when buttoned, and the buttons are sewn on with a visible shank rather than pressed flat against the fabric, which is the failure point we look at first on budget denim.

The length question

The listing's own specification band puts the garment length between 50 cm and 65 cm. Published measurements from authorised stockists of the Ami de Coeur denim shirt run noticeably longer: roughly 72 cm at small, 73.5 cm at medium, and past 75 cm further up the run, with a back hem that drops lower still on some cuts.

That gap matters more than any other number in this review. A 65 cm body on the largest size is a short, cropped-adjacent silhouette. It reads well tucked or half-tucked, and it works as a mid-layer under a coat. It does not give you the untucked, roomy overshirt look the branded original produces, and on a taller frame it will sit at or above the belt line. If you are buying this because you want the Ami de Coeur look at a fraction of the price, measure a shirt you already own before you commit.

Stitching, embroidery and hardware

Published authentication guidance for AMI heart-logo pieces names three concrete checks: the font weight and placement of the heart motif, the stitching and spacing on the neck tag, and the font consistency on the wash tag. We photographed all three.

  • Heart motif: dense satin stitching with no visible thread pulls after a cold wash and three wears. Placement on both colourways sat centred on the chest panel, not drifting toward the placket.
  • Neck tag: even stitch count around the perimeter, consistent spacing, no puckering underneath.
  • Wash tag: consistent typeface with evenly spaced symbols — the detail that most often slips on heart-logo replicas.

The collar held its shape after washing and did not develop the curled points we see on cheaper denim collars. Note, though, that the listing describes a turn-down collar and a straight hem; the branded original is generally sold with a button-down collar and a curved, longer back hem, so do not expect those details to transfer.

The variant tree is the real product

The colour options in this listing are not simply colours. Each one carries a style code, and the codes describe different garments:

Option shownStyle codeWhat it describes
Cowboy blue / cream / cream-heart2266Short cropped denim jacket
Cowboy blue / cream / cream-heart2288Unisex denim jacket
Cream2215Badge oxford shirt

Price and SKU stay constant across all of them, which is exactly why the option you tap decides what you receive. Before paying an agent, confirm with the seller which code ships with the variant you selected. Without that confirmation, a "cream" order could reasonably deliver any of three garments.

Sizing guidance, and its limits

AMI's own shirt guidance is to take your usual size rather than sizing up or down, and a community review of an AMI De Coeur tee describes a regular fit that runs true to size. Both are category-level AMI references, not reports on this listing.

Long sleeves are the weak spot in the evidence we could gather. A QC-community post on an AMI knit flagged a size chart showing roughly 60 cm of sleeve at XL, which is short. Retail Ami de Coeur denim shirts run 62–65 cm of sleeve at small alone. Ask for a sleeve measurement from the seller's actual chart for whichever code you pick, and treat the number as the deciding factor if you have long arms.

Limits of this test

We could not find independent buyer feedback on this exact listing, so everything above rests on our own handling plus AMI's published fit and authentication guidance. On durability the evidence is genuinely mixed: a reviewer of an AMI knit described it as heavy, warm and well put together but reported underarm pilling. That was a wool knit with a different construction from cotton denim, so it sets no expectation here — we saw no pilling on our sample, and cotton denim does not pill the way wool does. Treat the softness of the denim and its colourfastness over a year as unverified.

Care and layering

Cold wash inside out to limit colour transfer, hang dry, and skip the dryer if you care about the hem staying straight. The midweight hand makes it a good autumn and spring layer; under a heavier coat it behaves. Sizing up for an oversized look is not the play here — go up one size at most, and only if you intend to wear it buttoned over a hoodie, because the body length is the constraint rather than the chest.

Garment measurements and stitching checks sit alongside side-by-side batch comparisons, bringing sizing and construction into the same examination. Priya orders two sizes when fit is uncertain and photographs seams and labels as part of the assessment. Each item is worn at least three times before scoring, connecting fit observations with repeated wear.

How we tested

We ordered two sizes, weighed and flat-measured both, then wore the keeper at least three times with a cold wash between. Checks covered heart-motif embroidery density and placement, neck-tag stitching and spacing, wash-tag fonts, placket and button shanks, collar shape, and total garment length against published retail figures.

Does this denim shirt run true to size?

AMI's own guidance is to take your usual size, and a community review of an AMI De Coeur tee reports a regular, true-to-size fit. Neither covers this listing. Our two-size order kept our usual collared-shirt size; check the sleeve measurement on the seller's chart first.

Why is the colour list full of style codes?

Because they are different garments. Code 2266 is a cropped denim jacket, 2288 is a unisex denim jacket and 2215 is a badge oxford shirt. Price and SKU are unchanged across them, so confirm which code your chosen colour ships.

What does the $47.01 price not include?

Agent service fees, domestic shipping to the warehouse and international postage are added at checkout. The listing's weight field reads 0.00, so estimate your parcel cost from the warehouse weigh-in rather than the catalog entry.
